They were partners once
After an attack on the job that nearly killed her, Special Agent Celida Morales is determined to salvage her reputation in the FBI and get back to the career she loves. Domestic terrorism has left its mark on her—literally—and now she’s more determined than ever to leave her mark on it. But when a hostage situation takes an unexpected turn she’s confronted with the realization that she may not only lose the hostages, but also the only man she’s lost her heart to.

To be together now, this time they’ll have to risk it all
Hostage Rescue Team assault team leader Brad Tucker has always wanted Celida but professional conduct and her unwillingness to commit stood in the way. For more than a year he’s been juggling the increasing demands of his job and personal life, but after Celida was almost killed, none of those reasons matter anymore. Tuck knows it’s time to claim her and he’s ready to lay it all on the line. Then an op turns deadly and it’s a race to bring down a well-trained enemy bent on settling an old score, a man who doesn’t care how many innocent people get in his way.

WOW!!!

I loved the first book in this series, MARKED, and could not wait for Tuck and Celida's story since they were great secondary characters in MARKED. TARGETED was definitely worth the wait!

Celida is still the spunky spitfire we met in MARKED, but she's trying to overcome her fears from what happened after the traumatic events in the previous book. Tuck is the perfect hero - he's sensitive, thoughtful, a little tortured, and just alpha enough to get through Celida's fears. Even though Tuck has a lot on his plate, he realizes that he needed to let Celida know how he felt about her now because who knew what tomorrow would bring.

The action in the book is very interesting. It punctuated the story with just enough suspense that did not take away with the romance budding between Celida and Tuck. Ms. Cross is talented enough that she almost had me sympathizing with the bad guy and where he was mentally, but his motivation for revenge was completely misguided. There is not as much action as MARKED, but the character development and story of TARGETED is great just the way it is.

I loved the two together and cannot wait for Clay's story (hopefully with Zoe)!

Targeted Hostage Rescue Team Series Book 2 edition by Kaylea Cross Romance eBooks Reviews

This is book two of the series.

We were introduced to Celida and Tuck in book one entitled Marked. Although they used to be partners and obviously have strong feelings for each other, neither has ever been brave enough to admit it. After Celida is shot, Tuck decides it's time to make his move and come clean about his desires for a relationship with Celida - long term. Celida has always been tough and afraid to let anyone in, but Tuck knows if she will give him a chance he'll make her happy. But first, he has to deal with dad. Tuck's father is one of the most important people in his life and watching his dad suffer from Alzheimer's is killing him.

Celida has been off work several weeks due to the injuries she received when Rachel was kidnapped. On her first day back, a bomb goes off in the parking lot as she's walking to her car. She's blown back from the explosion but suffers no serious harm. When Tuck finds out, he goes straight there to see Celida for himself. After taking her home, he comes clean about his dad and tells Celida he wants them to be together. She admits that she wants the same thing and they agree to take it slow. Only the bomber strikes again and the FBI are trying their best to stop him before he hurts more innocent people. Both their lives will be put in danger.

I loved Tuck in the first book, and fell harder for him this time around. He's such a protective, warm and caring man. The love he has for both Celida and his dad is touching. Not to mention his feelings for his brothers. Celida knew she cared for Tuck, but never realized her feelings were as strong as they were. It was sweet watching both of them come to terms with how much they cared for each other.

There is a side story where Clay Bauer, Tuck's roommate and Zoe, Tuck's cousin, start spending time together. Theirs will be the next story in the book entitled Hunted.

Overall loved it. It's told from dual POVs, as well as that of the villain, and has a good ending.
Special Agent Brad "Tuck" Tucker, former Delta, is now the team leader of the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team assault team. Before being selected into this elite team he was partnered up with Special Agent Celida Morales, a former marine. Although there was a sexual attraction between them, neither acted and when Tuck' s selection came up, they parted as best friends, although both of them weren't so sure that this was the correct choice. Some months later, Celida is severely wounded ("Marked" - 1st installment of the series) and Tuck realizes that he has deeper feelings for her. But how can he approach her when she is known for doing only short-term flings? Being on leave to recuperate from her injury, Celida has thought a lot about the pull she feels for Tuck and maybe she would take the risk for a short time fling with him but he has been sending her mixed signals and although technically they could now have a relationship, he has refused to move beyond friendship. Apparently there are complications in his life. Anyway, still struggling with the invisible side effects of the injury, Celida returns to work, where her supervisor informs her on her first day back that the two terrorists who attacked her have been apprehended. She is happy to be back at work and for very personal reasons she wants to be involved in this investigation. But then a bomb goes off in the parking lot of the FBI offices and things get out of control.

Cross uses a very formulaic storyline. However the strength of the book was how she elaborates on characters and their emotions - and that was perfectly well done. I liked the fact that Celida positioned herself as a "bad ass" and how Tuck slowly slowly tried to get beneath her layers to find the true Celida, who is a wonderful and giving woman. I loved Tuck's soft side and believe me, I'll be thinking about him until I fall in love with the next hero. Bauer and Zoe made me more than once smile and I'm already looking forward to their story, which might have been started in this installment.

This second installment of the series was far better than the first one. It was fast paced, well balanced between the romance/suspense part and there where several twists and turns in the plot that kept me riveted. Plenty of background information on the villain let me understand his motives and there were enough details on him to allow me to visualize him.

P.S. I absolutely appreciated the fact that first installment was quickly followed by second one, which is very important in a series because it maintains the atmosphere of the all over concept. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long to read a further installment.
